Can all tiles be used on walls and floors?

Not always - floor tiles are produced to a specification which is stronger than wall tile specifications.

Although most tiles nowadays can be used on both, you can easily find on our specifications whether the tile you are looking at is suitable.

What are rectified tiles?

Rectified tiles are ceramic or porcelain tiles that are made to a precise tolerance. This means that they are cut to near exact measurements with a near perfect straight edge. Rectified tiles will create a uniform look, seamless edges and use less grout.

What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?

The major difference between porcelain tile and ceramic tile is how it’s made.

Both tiles are made from a clay mixture that’s fired in a kiln. Porcelain tile is made from more refined clay and is fired at higher temperatures. This makes porcelain tile denser and more durable than ceramic tile.

What is the calibre of a tile?

Calibre refers to the specific size of the tile. During the manufacturing process each tile can vary in size, the factory will then separate the tiles into different calibres to ensure the all of the tiles are the same size.

If you have a continuous job over time where you will be needing the same tile, we recommend making a note of the calibre.

What is the shade of a tile?

The shade is the colour tone that features a particular batch of tile. In industrial manufacturing it’s almost impossible to accomplish tiles with the exact same colour shade, so before packaging they are grouped together according to colour shade.

If you have a continuous job where you will be needing the same tile we recommend making a note of the shade.

What is a PEI rating?

PEI is the abbreviation for ‘Porcelain Enamel Institute’.

A PEI rating is given to a tile product based on the hardness of its glaze - this hardness is determined by the manufacturer using a standardised test. The results of this test will determine the proper usage of a product:

  • PEI 0 - Wall tiles only
  • PEI 1 - Light traffic
  • PEI 2 - Moderate traffic
  • PEI 3 - Regular traffic
  • PEI 4 - Intense traffic
  • PEI 5 - Heavy traffic

Which floor tiles are anti slip?

The majority of floor tiles these days are given an anti slip rating, this rating comes in the form of a ‘R’ value. They range from R9 to R13, R13 being the best anti slip rating. We would recommend any tile between R11-R13 as being a good anti slip option. We show these ratings in the specifications below each tile.

What is curb side delivery?

Curb side pick up and delivery is when a driver picks up and/or drops off a shipment at roadside or at the end of a driveway. This is the basic, standard method when picking up and delivering freight.

What are carved tiles?

Carved matt tiles are a remarkable addition to the world of porcelain tiles. They are known for their distinctive textured surface, which adds depth and character to any space. The intricate pattern and designs are carved into the tiles’ surface to give it a unique aesthetic appeal - setting it apart from conventional tiles.
